| Carla Marinucci: UPDATE - Gore cancels appearance at Boxer fundraiser
I just got a call from Vice President Al Gore. He told me that he needs to travel abroad tomorrow for an exciting and urgent mission that could result in a major breakthrough in the fight against global warming. Unfortunately, this means that we must postpone our Thursday, October 11th event with him until Friday, November 9th. I wanted to be sure to e-mail you tonight in case you were planning on attending. While I am really disappointed that we won't see Al Gore until next month, I am thrilled that he is continuing to provide critical leadership to address one of the most pressing issues of our time. You should know that only the most urgent global warming mission has called him out of the country. I look forward to seeing you on November 9th so we can all hear first-hand about Al Gore's latest exciting initiatives.
Espresso stand robbers hit Mill Creek, Martha Lake
The same easy access has made them a target for crime, Mill Creek police spokesman Steve Winters said. "It's a crime of opportunity," he said. The robberies often come in clusters. They happen in all parts of the county, early morning, noon and night. Sometimes police sketches and surveillance video lead to arrests. In September, a Stanwood couple was arrested for allegedly robbing several Marysville espresso stands. At the Mill Creek stand Monday, the man went into the small yellow-and-red shack in the 4400 block of 132nd Street SE just after 2 p.m. and pulled up the front of his sweatshirt, revealing a silver-and-black handgun tucked into his waist. He then demanded cash, Monroe said. When a customer pulled up, the man ran away, she said.
Council considers smoking ban for restaurants
I for one am so sick of taking my kids to eat out.We ask for non smoking and somehow always end up breathing cig. smoke the whole time we are there.I use to smoke before I got prg with my oldest and.I know what it is like to have the habbit.I just do not understand why people have to be so dissrespectfull of children.I have actually seen adults blow smoke onto my children. That is the wrong thing to do. I will tell you that right now. I never did anything like that when I smoked. When you smoke you do not realize how bad it stinks.I want to be able take my kids where I go and if you want to smoke do it at your own house where I will not be. or in a Bar where my children will not be at least until they are old enough to decide if that is where they would like to go. Thank You. " .
Calculating the Tobacco Taint
Medical researchers at the University of Virginia believe they have identified an enormously promising way to stop kids from taking up smoking. Virginia officials say their effort, which builds on a method they’ve patented for delivering highly targeted forms of health information to people based on their backgrounds and preferences, has the potential to help protect huge numbers of young people from the enormous health risks that tobacco poses. So when a company was willing to pony up $20 million to finance the research, they seized the opportunity. .
