| Joe Arpaio and Andrew Thomas are teaching the rest of the nation how ...
On a cool, clear Friday night in early February, about a hundred people are packed into the Casa Blanca Lounge on Van Buren Street in downtown Phoenix. Many of them have come for "communion" with local punk/thrash quartet NunZilla. But the "nuns" here aren't anything like the ones who rapped your knuckles with rulers in Catholic school, and this communion is more like an anarchistic tent revival. .
Misusing govt scheme to settle abroad
The misuse of the scheme, it was learnt, for settling abroad was maximum in the Police Department where a large number of senior officers were said to have availed of the scheme and settled abroad. The list of such officials included persons of the ranks of Inspector, DSP, SP and other senior positions. Several other police officials and from other departments were trying this route as their applications were awaiting approval of the top authorities. The fact that the Department of Personnel had recently issued a memo to the heads of departments specifying that, It has been decided that no government officer/official should apply or seek emigration to any other country so long as he is government service, did not make any difference or hindrance to such employees. The Department of Personnel had made it clear that the question of issuance of a no objection certificate to a government employee who wished to migrate to a foreign country, therefore, did not arise.
Washoe County establishes DUI court
A new program being established in Washoe County will provide third-time DUI offenders a chance to participate in an intense, court-supervised treatment program instead of going to prison. Expected to start in mid-December, the program will be available to people arrested for DUI for the third time, provided no deaths or injuries were involved. Washoe District Court Chief Judge Jerry Polaha says about 50 people are waiting to enroll. He estimates the court will supervise about 250 people a year. Under a new state law, district courts are authorized to provide supervised treatment and rehab for three years to third-time offenders. Those who succeed would have the felony charge converted to a third DUI misdemeanor. Those who fail go to prison. .
